Osaka next!

Time for the annual Japan-trip, and this time 16 days will be spent mainly in Osaka. Will try to travel around a bit too, and perhaps even go see a few matches. The football-highlight of the trip will of course be the match between Cerezo and Tokushima on August 30th.So for anyone that will be attending that match, look out for a lost norwegian gaijin dressed in pink.Cheers!

J1 - R21 Match Reports

Kawasaki Frontale Jubilo Iwata 2-2
K: Taniguchi 58’, Chong Tese 64’
J: Maeda 13’, Ueda 59’

Jubilo were lucky to get away with a point against Frontale this match, as the home-team were by far the better-looking team out there. However, Jubilo took the lead on 2 occasions, and if they had managed to defend better they would taken all 3 points. Their star-striker Maeda gave them the lead with a nicely-taken header after only 13 minutes, that Frontale’s keeper might should have saved. Frontale tried their best to get an early equalizer, but despite several chances the score were still 0-1 by half-time. Some 10-15 minutes into the 2nd half the match exploded, when first Taniguchi equalized for the home-team in the 58th minute. But just a minute later Jubilo’s impressive man in midfield Ueda beautifull curled in a free-kick to make it 1-2. With Frontale equalizing for the 2nd time 4 minutes later through Chong Tese it was a very entertaining period for the spectators. Frontale had the most of the chances, and with a bit more luck and efficiency they would have won this by a safe margin. All in all a solid display from them though, and they showed good team-morale to come from behind twice. Frontale had 20 shots to Jubilo’s 10.
Y: Nakazawa 27’

A draw is a result neither Shimizu or Marinos will be particularly happy with, as both teams struggle down in 15th and 16th respectively. That means the danger of relegation are highly present, and neither of the teams above them in the table seems to be heading towards a long slump in form, so it’s important that they start winning again. Both teams are undefeated for a few matches now though, so it’s improvement from earlier in the season. It was an evenly contested match, where neither of the teams managed to take control of the game. The play shifted from side to side, but in the opening 20 minutes or so Shimizu looked the best. Marinos received a corner in the 27th minute, and who else than Yuji Nakazawa showed up on the first post to beautifully head it home to make it 1-0 to the visitors. After that Marinos took over a little, but it didn’t last long before Shimizu were the most dangerous side again. Just after restart for the 2nd half, Shimizu equalized through Iwashita, who snuck up on the far post to take a diving header past Enomoto in Marinos’s goal after a nice cross from the right. The rest of the 2nd half looked pretty much the same as the first, with Shimizu having most of the chances. Marinos had the biggest one though, when Sakata were called off for off-side with just a few minutes left. Sakata found the net with his shot, but the replay showed the referees did correct. Shimizu outshot Marinos 9-5.
K: Watanabe 48’, Fernandinho 89’

Consadole were extremely unlucky not to get away with a better result from this match, as they had full control over Kyoto for long parts of this match. The visitors didn’t have a single chance before 3 minutes into the 2nd half, while Consadole blew several golden chances. Their brazilian trio up front caused alot of havoc for Kyoto’s defence, but Mizutani in the Kyoto-goal played his best match of the season, and came up with 4-5 match-winning saves. One time did he let Davi score though, when the speedy brazilian used his superior speed to win a seemingly hopeless ball before racing away from the defenders. Alone with Mizutani he coolly place the ball between the GK’s legs. His compatrio up front Anderson showed once again that he isn’t among the best finishers in the league, and he should have won the game for the home-team.
Kyoto were the best team after the break though, and with that one can say that the team owned each their half. Kyoto’s equalizer were a lucky shot that deflected via a few Consadole defenders that left Takagi in Consadole’s goal wrong-footed. Kyoto had most of the chances in the 2nd half, but none of them were as big as Consadole’s in the 1st. And then, 1 minute before full-time Fernandinho broke loose and took a well-placed shot from just outside the box to finish it 2-1 for the visitors. Consadole had 15 shots to Kyoto’s 12, and should have gotten more from this match.

Albirex Niigata Oita Trinita 0-1
O: Morishima 18’

Oita continued their great form when they met Albirex away this round, and took a strong 1-0 win. With that they got an impressive 6-2-0 on the last 8. It was a well-deserved win as well, as Oita has most of the chances. They came out deep in defence, and went for quick counters that paid off already in the 17th minute. Out-of-favour striker at Cerezo Yasuhito Morishima have had a good start to his career at Oita, and in his first ever start for them he became the match-winner. Morishima picked up the spill-ball after Albirex’s goalkeeper couldn’t held a shot, and scored on the rebound. Oita, who are known for very good defending, packed their defence after the leading goal, and Albirex struggled to break through. Instead Oita came to big chances since Albirex had to open things up in their hunt for the equalizer. Oita had 16 shots to Albirex’s 8, and deserved all 3 points.
J: Arai 65’

Reysol and JEF shared the spoils as usual as they met in perhaps Japan’s biggest derby match, and it was an evenly contested match. Reysol looked the strongest in 1st half, and came to several big chances that threatened JEF’s defence. Franca in particular were a menace. It didn’t result in any goals though, and instead it was JEF that took over the initiative for the 2nd half. Substitute Arai received a through-pass from Aoki, and after sidestepping his defender he hammered it home with a powerful shot. Reysol were caught sleeping on that one, and tried their best to get the equalizer. The always so dangerous Franca came to more chances, but Okayama in JEF’s goal came up with several nice saves. But after a corner-kick JEF failed to clear the ball, and Franca lured their off-side trap and with a volley-shot he equalized with only 10 minutes left to play. The finish became quite entertaining too, with JEF’s toda receiving the marching-order in injury-time. A few minutes later JEF missed a penalty as well. All in all a draw seems fair, but both teams had enough chances to win it. Reysol had 15 shots to JEF’s 12.

Vissel Kobe Nagoya Grampus Eight 1-2
V: Leandro 82’
N: Ogawa 14’,90’

Vissel and Nagoya played a very entertaining match in Kobe this round, where the visitors prevailed as winners after a last-minute goal from Ogawa. The match were quite intense, and both teams saw several golden chances go begging. Ogawa gave Nagoya an early lead after 14 minutes, when Tamada found him with a nice pass. After that Vissel took more over, but neither Okubo or Leandro managed to hit the target despite several chances. The 2nd half looked pretty much the same as the first, with the game shifting from side to side. We had to wait until the 82nd minute for Vissel’s equalizer, when Leandro dribbled his way past a few men, before managing to unleash a shot with 4 players surrounding him that went past Narazaki in the Nagoya-goal. But in injury-time, Ogawa hit the target once again, and secured all 3 points for the visitors. Both teams had 12 shots each, and a draw seemed most fair.

Urawa took a very strong win away against Tokyo this round, which after 3 matches without winning were much-needed. It was a tight match though, and Tokyo looked to be on the same level as Urawa for much of this game. The visitors looked most dangerous in attack, especially after the introdution of Robson Ponte who came on midway through the 2nd half. Actually Urawa’s goal came immediately after Ponte’s arrival, when Suzuki found Soma with a tricky pass. Soma made no mistake alone with Tokyo’s keeper, and scored the winning goal. Tokyo didn’t play a bad match, but never looked like threatening Urawa’s defence. Both teams had 12 shots on goal.

Kashima Antlers Tokyo Verdy 4-1
K: Koroki 20’, Iwamasa 44’, Marquinhos 48’, Nozawa 78’
V: Diego 80’

Verdy became atleast one number too small when they met league-leaders Kashima away this round. The home-team looked scincillating, and totally outplayed Verdy. Young-striker Koroki gave Antlers an early lead after only 20 minutes, and right before the break DF Iwamasa made it 2-0 with a nice header from a corner. Verdy didn’t have a single chance in the opening half, and Kashima’s lead could even had been bigger. Shinzo Koroki have been preferred instead Yuzo Tashiro in the last couple of matches, and the youngster have been much more dangerous than Tashiro, and seems a much better finisher as well. Marquinhos made it 3-0 a few minutes into the 2nd half, and by that the match were already over for Verdy. They tried to get back into the match by sending on Oguro though, but it didn’t really help. Near the end of the match Nozawa added a 4th for Antlers, before Diego scored a consolation goal for the visitors. Antlers had 23 shots to Verdy’s 9, so no doubt they deserved the win.

Omiya Ardija Gamba Osaka 2-0
O: Marques 5’, Leandro 44’

Omiya impressed with beating Gamba 2-0 at home this round, and with that they took their 2nd straight win. That has given them a little breathing space down to the other teams battling against relegation, and for now Omiya seems safe. For Gamba it was their 3rd straight defeat, and they seems really off the pace at the moment.
Omiya took control early on, when Marques scored from a rebound given from Fujigaya after a Lavric-header after only 5 minutes, and the home-team continued with the pressure after the early goal. But their chances weren’t that dangerous really, not until Leandro headed home a corner-kick just before the break to make it 2-0. Gamba took more over in the 2nd half, but Omiya’s defence looked good and managed to keep Gamba at bay. Roni made hi debut for Gamba here, and he looked quite lively. In the end a deserved win for Omiya, who had 10 shots to Gamba’s 11. Omiya’s striker Marques got sent off in the middle of the 2nd half though, which will be a blow ahead of the next match.

J2 - R31 Match Reports

Ehime FC Sagan Tosu 0-2
S: Fujita 53’,55’

After a couple of poor performances lately, Sagan were in need of a win again against Ehime, and thanks to a brace from their star-striker Yoshihito Fujita they secured all 3 points. Ehime put up a tough fight though, and were fully on level with Sagan this match, and probably deserved atleast a draw. Both of Fujita’s goals came early in the 2nd half. In the 53rd minute he led a Sagan-counter and finished it off himself with a well-taken shot, and just 2 minutes later he exploited an error in the Ehime defence to double the lead. Ehime were the best team before the half, but Sagan’s 2 goals turned the match around. Later in the 2nd half Ehime made a few substitutions though, and took over the initiative again. All in all a evenly-contested match, and Sagan have to thank Fujita and a very impressive defence for all 3 points here. That means Sagan are still in a solid 3rd. Ehime had 18 shots to Sagan’s 16.

Yokohama FC Thespa Kusatsu 1-1
Y: Anderson 14’
T: Takada 1’

2 of the biggest draw-specialists met in Yokohama this round, and naturally the match ended with the teams sharing the spoils in a 1-1 match. The match started off with a boom, when Thespa’s Yasunori Takada found the net with a well-placed left-legged shot after dribbling his way past a few men after only 1 minute. A lightning start to the match, and it didn’t take long before we got the 2nd goal either. In the 14th minute Anderson received the ball inside the box, and after muscling his way past a defender he hammered it home to make it 1-1. That was Anderson’s first goal in 9 matches, and the nifty brazilian have been really off lately. It was an evenly contested match from then onwards, with the play shifting from one side to another constantly. Thespa looked marginally better though, and with a bit more luck they would taken all 3 points. This was Yokohama’s 10th draw this season and Thespa’s 11th. Only Vegalta with 12 draws got more this season. Yokohama had 7 shots to Thespa’s 10.

Cerezo Osaka Mito Hollyhock 2-1
C: Inui 13’, Komatsu 18’
M: Akahoshi 52’

After 4 matches without a win, Cerezo finally found back to winning ways when they met Mito this round. And they played quite a good match too, constantly pressuring Mito’s defence. New signing Inui scored his first ever goal in a Cerezo-shirt in the 13th minute from close range, after a scramble inside the penalty-box. Just 5 minutes later Inui set up Komatsu for Cerezo’s 2nd goal, when Inui dribbled a few guys before taking a shot that Honam in Mito’s GK only could parry for Komatsu to head it home. Cerezo were in total control the first half, and came to tons of chances. Honma in Mito’s goal did a good job at keeping the score at 0-2, and the finishing of particularly Kaio up front weren’t that good either. Mito’s Takafumi Akahoshi reduced to 1-2 a few minutes into the 2nd half after a mistake in the Cerezo-defence, and the away-team looked much more competitive in the 2nd half. But it was no doubt that Cerezo deserved the win, and they outshot Mito 28-9 in the end.

FC Gifu Tokushima Vortis 1-1
G: Otomo 78’
T: Sosa 42’

Both Gifu and Tokushima are on winless streaks now, where Gifu only got 2 points in their last 6 matches, and Tokushima got a horrible record of 0-2-9 in their last 11. Therefore a win were important for both teams here, but perhaps even more for Gifu who’s battling for positions. Tokushima seems stuck in last place, and probably won’t be able to avoid the wooden spoon in the end. Gifu got off to the best start, and looked the strongest team in the first half. They didn’t get to that many big chances though, and instead it was Tokushima who took the lead right before the break. Wellington Sosa, who’ve been missing the target with several shots in the last 3 matches finally scored his first goal for the club, after collecting the ball inside the box before side-stepping a Gifu-defender. A nice goal, and a possible break-through for the striker. Sosa has been quite lively after he came to the club, but has been unlucky with the finishing and a goal might be what he needed to start scoring points for Tokushima on a regular basis. Tokushima continued in the 2nd half where they left it, and put Gifu under alot of pressure early on. but they didn’t manage to get that important 2nd goal, and instead they let Gifu back into the game. Otomo received a through-pass from Kojima in the 78th minute, and alone with Tokushima’s goalkeeper he converted his shot with ease. 1-1, and for the remainder of the match we saw few chances at both ends. A disappiinting match for Gifu who were outshot 13-9 by Tokushima.

Avispa Fukuoka Roasso Kumamoto 2-2
A: Nunobe 8’, Tanaka 87’
R: Takahashi 83’,86’

Avispa will be unhappy with just a draw against island-rivals Roasso at home, especially since they need to win as many matches as possible if they want to have a realistic chance of promotion. They are currently 9 points 3rd placed Sagan, so it’s still a long way to go. They got off to a good start though, and Nunobe gave them the lead after only 8 minutes with a well-taken shot from distance. Avispa were by far the best team in the first half, so it was fully deserved that they went to half-time 1-0 up. However, they looked a little monotonous in attack though, and it was easy for Roasso to stop their attacks. Roasso got more into the game in the 2nd half, and started getting to chances themself. IT didn’t erupt before in the dying minutes though, when a double from ace-striker Takahashi turned the match around, and resulted suddenly in Roasso leading 2-1. Not long after Avispa’s Tanaka came up with a miraculous game-tying goal that saw the match end 2-2. Avispa were overall the best team, and should have taken all 3 points. They outshot Roasso 19-6.

Vegalta Sendai Montedio Yamagata 0-1
M: Toyoda 78’
The biggest clash of the round took place in Sendai, where visitors Montedio impressed with a very strong 1-0 away win. With that they look to be in a very good position regarding promotion, while for Vegalta it was a blow who are now without a win for 6 matches. Before this loss they had 5 straight draws, and needs to up their game if they want to finish 3rd or higher. Vegalta got off to a good start , and had some big chances in the opening minutes. They even had a goal disallowed, when Nakashima found the net only to be called off for offside. Montedio were on the same level as Vegalta though, and had chances of their own. FW Yohei Toyoda returned from the Olympics earlier than planned, and came off the bench midway through the 2nd half. The powerful striker had an immediate impact on the game, and became the match-winner with his header in the 78th minute. Vegalta had 13 shots to Montedio’s 8 in the end, and perhaps a draw would be the most fair result.

Ventforet Kofu Sanfrecce Hiroshima 2-0
V: Hayashi 21’, Sugiyama 50’

Ventforet beat Sanfrecce for the 2nd time this season, and considering Sanfrecce have only lost 4 times that’s an impressive feat. It was fully deserved as well, and Kofu wen out with a high-pressure already from the beginning of. Hayashi gave them an early lead in the 21st minute after a header from corner, and they managed to keep Sanfrecce at bay for most of the time as well, denying them anye real goal-scoring opportunities. Minutes into the 2nd half Sugiyama received the ball outside the box, and hammered in a shot from distance to make it 2-0. Sanfrecce tried their best to respond, but the closest they got were a shot from Koji Morisaki that Kofu’s keeper saved. The win means Kofu’s hopes of promotion are still alive, and although it’s still some points up to the other teams they are in decent form. Kofu outshot Sanfrecce 10-7.

J1 - round 20 reports

Urawa Red Diamonds Kashiwa Reysol 2-2
U: Abe 34’, Nagai 90’
K: Suganuma 18’, Franca 90’

Urawa were held by Reysol in a very entertaining 2-2 match this round, and the match had a dramatic end to it with 2 goals in injury-time. Reysol by no means looked inferior to the home team, and there were big chances at both ends. Reysol got off to a good start when Alex hit the post with a header in the opening minutes, and it didn’t take long before Suganuma had given them the lead with a stunning kick from distance that flew into the top corner.Urawa were caught sleeping on that occasion, and eventually managed to turn the match around into their favour. They came to some half-chances before winger Hirakawa found Yuki Abe in the middle with a low cross, and the versatile midfielder fired home a volley shot from 20 metres out in the 34th minute. In other words plenty of drama, and 2 very well-taken goals in the first half. The 2nd half looked pretty much the same as the first, but with Urawa having a small edge over their opponent. We had to wait until the 91st minute before what mot people thought were the winning goal, when Nagai somehow manged to dribble his way through the Reysol defence, and took a nice chip-shot over Sugeno in Reysol’s goal. As they already were in injury-time, most people thought it was the winning goal, but late-substitute Franca wanted it differently. Over 4 minutes into injury time, he took down a high ball on his chest, before volleying home the equalizing goal via the post. A spectacular finish to an entertaining match, and in the end a draw seemed fair. Urawa outshot Reysol 17-12.

Yokohama F Marinos Gamba Osaka 2-1
Y: Oshima 31’, Sakata 57’
G: Futagawa 53’

After going 10 matches without a win in the league, it was a much-needed 3-pointer for Marinos in this match, as they beat a travelling Gamba side 2-1. For Gamba, somewhat disappointing, especially since they lost with the same scores here in midweek as well in the cup. But it’s really tight at the top, and Gamba are currently just 3 points from being in 1st place. Yokohama on the other hand, moved within 2 points of safe place, and still has alot of work to do if they don’t want to face the drop. With particularly JEF in good form as well as Consadole to some extent in the places behind them, they need to up their game in the future matches, and they hope they can build on from this result.
It was an evenly contested match with several chances at both ends. Marinos looked the most dangerous side though, with an inspiring Daisuke Sakata causing havoc for Gamba’s defence. Gamba infact looked a little toothless in attack, with Bare gone and Bando injured. However, just after the match, they announced they had bought Marinos’s own Roni as a replacement for Bare, and the brazilian have scored 6 goals for Marinos this season which makes him their topscorer.
Marinos didn’t look they were missing Roni this match though, as Oshima and Sakata combined well up front with alot of nice play. Oshima gave them the lead in the 31st minute with a looping header from a tight angle. With that Marinos had a well-deserved lead by half-time, but Gamba came out for the 2nd half looking very hungry for an equalizer. Takahito Futagawa, who in Endo’s absence have taken alot of responsibility in the midfield, scored his first goal of the season in the 53rd minute. Lucas let a cross from the left go past him on to the waiting Futagawa who fired home the equalizer from close range. But just 4 minutes afterwards, the speedy Sakata came in from the left and sent away a well-placed shot that went in via the far post. Gamba never really managed to answer to that, and in the end Marinos were deserved winners. They had 10 shots to Gamba’s 13.

JEF Utd Ichihara Kashima Antlers 3-1
J: Bosnar 31, Maki 68’,77’
K: Motoyama 70’

JEF played arguably their best match in years when they beat reigning champions and league-leaders Kashima Antlers 3-1 at home. Lead by an inspiring Maki they took 3 very important points ahead of a sold-out Fukuari. DF Bosnar haven’t had the best of seasons so far, but surely his magnificent free-kick in the 31st minute will make him a favorite among the fans. He sent away a pile-driver that flew past Sogahata in the Kashima goal. A great start for JEF, and they managed to keep their momentum for rest of the half. Kashima, who were already in a difficult situation trailing a goal, got an even tougher task when Danilo got sent off straight after the break after a heavy two-footed tackle. With 11 vs 10, JEF eyed a shock-win, and Maki, who seems to have gone to a change for the better lately, beat Iwamasa in the air in the 68th minute to make it 2-0. But with Antlers immediately responding through Motoyama after a nice attack down the left, alot of JEF’s fans thought Antlers would turn the match around. But Maki were on target again shortly after with a beautiful diving header, and with that settled the score to 3-1. JEF had 8 shots to Kashima’s 10, and it seems JEF might be able to avoid the drop this time as well, if they manage to keep up the good form.

Jubilo Iwata Vissel Kobe 0-1
V: Kobayashi 81’

Vissel bounced back from 2 poor results agains JEF and Consadole in the previous matches to win 1-0 at Jubilo. However, it was a somewhat lucky win, as the home-team were the most dangerous team and also had most of the chances. But poor finishing from the usually s effective Bandai,Gilsinho and Cullen meant Jubilo finished this game without hitting the net, where as Vissel’s Kobayashi became the hero of the day with a late goal to win the match for the visitors. Kobayashi picked up the spill-ball after a corner, and scored via the post with just 9 minutes to go. Jubilo never managed to answer, and Vissel could take a very important win in the end, that leaves them just 6 points behind a top 3 place. Jubilo had 15 shots to Vissel’s 10.
KF: Kurotsu 44’,47’

Kawasaki seems to be back on track now, with 10 points from their last 4 matches. That means they are only 2 points behind leading Antlers, and are sailing up as one of the favorites for the title. With all their biggest rivals Kashima,Gamba and Urawa all occupied with ACL-competition later this year, Frontale has an advantage as they can focuse 100% on the league. The hero of the day are without a doubt Kurotsu, who scored his 2 first goals of the season to win the match for the visitors. In fact it was hist first start of the season as well, as he surprisingly were choosen in favour of Kazuki Ganaha. Kyoto weren’t bad though, and could have taken the lead when Watanabe sent away a scorcher only to see Kawashima in Frontale’s goal save it midway through the 1st half. Kurotsu’s first goal came just before the break, and the 2nd came minutes after. Both were from close range, and Kurotsu where at the right place at the right time. Kyoto’s inspiring midfielder Fernandinho reduced to 1-2 with a free-kick that went in via deflection, but they never managed to get an equalizer. Kyoto had 11 shots to Frontale’s 14.
T: Hirayama 44’

Nagoya have been one of the more unpredictable teams lately, and although they still lie in a good position with regards to a top 3 finish, their form are not good. It seems they can beat anyone on their day, but also lose to the smaller and poorer teams too, like FC Tokyo here, who were without a win for 8 matches. The talented striker Sota Hirayama scored the winning goal just before the break, with a nice shot from distance. Hirayama were tipped to be a regular for the NT after impressing a few seasons ago, but the last 2 years he’s been a big disappointment. All in all Tokyo were the best team here, and only good goalkeeping from Narazaki kept them from winning by a bigger margin. A disappointing outing for the home team, who stil lie in a solid 3rd though. Nagoya had 11 shots to Tokyo’s 14.

Oita Trinita Shimizu S-Pulse 2-2
O: Takahashi 61’, Kiyotake 84’
S: Hara 26’, Yajima 30’

It was a match of two halves when Oita and Shimizu met this round, with Shimizu getting off to a great start in the first half, scoring 2 goals in quick succession. Not many teams have managed to score 2 goals in Oita this season, and Shimizu’s goals came from Hara and Yajima. Hara’s goal came after a counter, where the nifty striker found the net with a left-legged shot. Just 4 minutes later Yajima doubled the lead after reacting to a loose-ball.
With the visitors looking in total control, few would have thought Oita would be able to fight back, but they got more into the game in the 2nd half, and around the hour-break Takahashi found the net after taking a powerful shot. With the pressure now turned towards Shimizu’s goal, it was only a matter of time before the equalizer came, and 6 minutes from full-time Kiyotake’s goal levelled the teams. If Ueslei had finished off his big chance earlier in the match this would have been a home-win, but all in all a draw seems fair. Oita had 8 shots to Shimizu’s 10.

Tokyo Verdy Albirex Niigata 4-0
T: Iio 9’,20’, Hiramoto 40’, Fukunishi 62’

Tokyo impressed alot this round by beating Albirex 4-0 at home, and with that moving just 2 points behind them in the table.Verdy are now 11th, and if they can keep up their good form they could soon find themselves figthing for an upper-half finish. The critiscised Kazunari Iio played probably his best match ever in a Verdy shirt, topping a great performance with 2 goals and an assist. Already after 20 minutes had Iio foudn the net on 2 occasions, and were good goals too. His partner up front Hiramoto added a 3rd just before the break, and that pretty much killed the match off for the 2nd half. Verdy showed great spirit and played some good football throughout the match, and actually they play much better now than when Hulk were leading their attack. The former NT-midfielder Fukunishi scored the 4th goal with the easiest of tap-ins midway through the 2nd half. Albirex on their side, looked poor in attack, and with a shaky defence as well they were doomed to lose. They played without Richardes up front, and it were obivous they missed him. Verdy had 10 shots to Niigata’s 11.
O: Lavric 9’, Marques 56’

Omiya ended a 5-match without a win streak when they beat the even more struggling Consadole 2-1 away this round. An important win, which gives them a little breathingspace with regards to relegation. For Consadole, they are now in joint last place, following JEF’s win, and with JEF in good form it won’t be too long before we see Consadole alone at the bottom if they continue like this. Consadole got off to a good start this match though, as Anderson were body-checked inside the box after only 2 minutes. The brazilian took the spot-kick himself, and scored his first ever goal in the J.League. But just minutes later, another striker were to score his first in Japan, as Omiya’s Klemen Lavric headed home the equalizer after a beautiful cross from Denis Marques. Marques didn’t only serve as a deliverer, as he scored the winning goal in the early parts of the 2nd half. Also that were a penalty-kick, but Consadole’s GK actually saved Marques’s shot, only to parry it into the striker’s path again to give him a clean shot. Omiya deserved the win, and Consadole’s worries are growing. With regards to future J1 football next season it looks dark, but things change fast in J.League and they still have a chance. Consadole had only 5 shots to Omiya’s 13.

J2 - round 30 reports

Vegalta Sendai Sanfrecce Hiroshima 1-1
V: Sugai 70’
S: Sato 61’

Vegalta and Sanfrecce shared the spoils in an entertaining encounter, where perhaps Sanfrecce had deserved to win. The match were quite evenly contested though, but Sanfrecce had the biggest chances and most of the possession. The first half didn’t provided too manty chances, and the ones that were were saved by the two teams GK’s. Sanfrecce seemed to have a slight advantage, but without turning that into goals. Ri Han Jae had the biggest chance for Sanfrecce, but his shot were saved by Vegalta’s GK. Closest came Vegalta’s Nakashima though who missed a sitter. 16 minutes into the 2nd half came the opening goal, when Hattori and Kashiwagi combined well to see the latter find Hisato Sato free in the box. Sato easily converted his chance, and with that scored his 16th goal of the season. But just a few minutes later Vegalta’s Sugai picked up a loose ball after a corner, and hammered in the equalizer. Vegalta actually looked the most dangerous side at the end, and pushed Sanfrecce back into their own half. No goals were scored though, and the match ended 1-1. Vegalta had 9 shots to Sanfrecce’s 16.

Mito Hollyhock Thespa Kusatsu 2-2
M: Arata 41’, Hiramatsu 49’
T: Goto 18’, Kikuoka 53’

Mito did well to earn a point against the draw-spesialists Thespa at home this round, in a match than ended 2-2. Both teams had a fair share of chances, but in the end Mito will think they deserved the win the most. Thespa got off to a good start though, when Goto gave them the lead after only 18 minutes. Thespa looked to be the team in charge for most of the first half, but didn’t get to that many chances. Instead Mito’s topscorer and in-form striker Arata equalized just before the break, with his 12th goal of the season. Impressive for a rookie player in such a small club. Mito continued where they left after the break, and Hiramatsu beautifully headed home the 2-1 goal 4 minutes into the 2nd half. But Thespa responded immediately, and with Yamazaki grabbing a goal the teams were deadlocked again. Near the end of the match Thespa got a man sent off, which led to some big chances for the home team that they failed to finish. All in all an entertaining match, and a draw wasn’t too bad for either teams. Mito looked slightly better though overall, with 13 shots to Thespa’s 9.

Montedio Yamagata Ehime FC 3-0
M: Miyazawa 11’, Hasegawa 15’,78’

Montedio faced few difficulties when they met struggling Ehime at home, and in the end they ended up winning 3-0. Although Montedio took a somewhat cautious approach to this match, and never risked too muhc going forward, they always looked to be in control and also proved very effective. In fact, Ehime had the same amount of shots as Montedio did. Miyazawa gave the home team the lead after only 11 minutes, when he took a powerful shot from distance that flew in past Tada in Ehime’s goal. And just 4 minutes later, in-form striker Hasegawa scored on a counter attack to make it 2-0. After the early goals, Montedio slowed down a little, and Ehime tried their best to get back into the match. But they met a solid defence here, and never managed to threat their opponent. Hasegawa added a 2nd to his tally to make it 3-0 with 10-12 minutes left to play, after being set up micely by Akiba. Both teams had 11 shots on goals, but Montedio were by far the best team. They are showing they really mean business this season, and must be considered as one of the strongest candidates for promotion now with only 1/3 left of the season.
Y: Yamada 70’

Both Roasso and Yokohama will be happy with a point from this encounter, as it means they both are without a loss for 2 matches now which has been a rare thing this season.
Roasso got off to the best start though, and took an early lead after oly 3 minutes through a counter-attack in which Takahashi got the honour of finishing off. That was Takahashi’s 13th goal of the season, and only got Hisato Sato and Naoki Ishihara ahead of himselves in the goalscoring chart. Impressive. Yokohama for long seemed to struggle in their quest for the equalizer, with Roasso’s GK coming up with several top-notch saves. But after some offensive substitutions that proved very effective, Yokohama finally found their equalizer through a shot from Yamada, and that proved to be the last goal of the match as well. In the end Yokohama might have deserved the win, but considering their poor form of late they will probably be happy with just avoiding defeat too. Roasso had 11 shots to Yokohama’s 9.

Sagan will be disappointed with just a point at home vs Gifu, as they fighting for one of the 2 available promotion spots. They came from a loss against Sanfrecce, and might be heading into a bad streak now. Gifu did well to prevent them the win though, and with both teams looking more concerned about their defensive play than their offensive, no wonder it became a scoreless draw in the end. Gifu got off to a good start, and looked dangerous in the opening minutes, but it didn’t take long before Sagan had closed them down. Sagan only looked lively for parts in the 2nd half, and the introduction of Leandro midway through the half certainly made them look better up front. But it didn’t help in the end, and the match ended 0-0 with Sagan just outshooting Gifu 11-10.

Shonan Bellmare Cerezo Osaka 3-0
S: Ishihara 15’,26’, Careca 80’

Cerezo’s misery doesn’t seem to be having an end, and once again they ended up the losing side for the 3rd consecutive match, and for the 6th time in the last 8. But in difference to most of their other losses recently, they totally deserved to lose this time, as Shonan were by far the best team. Naoki Ishihara bagged a brace early in the match to give Shonan a 2-0 lead. First he headed home a cross from Sato, before picking up a spill-ball after a freekick before hammering it in. Ishihara is really on fire at the moment, and only Hisato Sato have scored more than him this season. Cerezo never really looked like threatening Shonan, and even when they swapped DF Ezoe for FW Kakitani they looked toothless in attack. To complete the misery for Cerezo, their former striker Careca added a 3rd with 10 minutes left to play. Careca were a big disappointment at Cerezo, but when he got the chance to play against them he managed for once to find the net. Shonan took a very deserved win in the end, and outshot Cerezo 13-7.
V:Akimoto 74’, Haji 81’, 90’

Tokushima were lucky only to lose 1-3 when they met Kofu this round, as it was a one-way street towards Tokushima’s goal for pretty much the entire match. Only in the opening few minutes did Tokushima manage to stay on level with the visitors, and it was in that early period they got their goal as well, through MF Andrezinho who scored his first ever goal for the club after a nice cross from fellow brazilian Sosa. But after that, it was all about Kofu, who bombarded Tokushima’s goal with shots. Andrezinho went from hero to villain too after only 26 minutes, when he were sent off for 2 yelow cards. It took a long time before they managed to get the equalizer though, as Tokushima’s GK stood like a living wall until the 74th minute. Akimoto where the man to break the deadlock through a set-piece. And within the last 9 minutes, substitute Haji bagged two goals to win the match for the visitors. Surely a well-deserved win, and if Kofu had been a bit more efficient, they would have won by a much bigger margin. They outshot Tokushima 23-3, who now got 5 straight defeats.

J2 - round 29 results

Avispa Fukuoka Shonan Bellmare 2-2
A: Havenaar 43’,48’
S: Kikuchi 29’, Kato 58’

Neither Avispa or Shonan will be particularly happy with just a draw this match, as both teams are in need of a win in their run for promotion. Shonan got off to the best start, although on a somewhat lucky goal. Kikuchi hopefully unleashed a shot, that hit an Avispa defender and went into the goal. Avispa tried their best to get back into the match though, and it was fully-deserved when Havenaar muscled his way through to make it 1-1 just before the break. Havenaar scored another just a few minutes into the 2nd half, when Shonan’s GK mis-calculated a cross. The 2nd-half produced alot of chances, and it didn’t take long before Shonan were levelled again when Kato scored the equalizer in the 58th minute. Despite big chances at both ends near the end, the match ended with no more goals. Avispa probably deserved the win, with 16 shots to Shonan’s 10.

Ventforet Kofu Vegalta Sendai 2-2
VK: Sales 35’, Maranhao 37’
VS: Ryan Yong-Gi 9’, Nakashima 44’

Kofu and Sendai shared the spoils in an entertaining 2-2 match this round, a result Kofu should be most happy with. Vegalta by no means dominated, but had most of the chances and also played over half the match 11 against 10. Ryan Yong-Gi gave Vegalta an early lead from the penalty-spot in the 9th minute, but after that it evened out a bit, with Kofu gradually taking more over. Most of the drama took place near the end of the first half, with Kofu’s 2 new brazilian FW’s Sales and Maranhao both hitting the target within minutes to turn the match around. But Maranhao went from hero to villain as he were sent off immediately after his goal. Nakashima gave Vegalta the equalizer soon after that, in injury-time. With 11 against 10 for the rest of the match, Vegalta naturally looked the controlling team, but sturdy defending by Kofu denied them both goals and chances. Therefore the match ended a 2-2 draw, with Vegalta outshooting Kofu 10-7.

Cerezo Osaka Yokohama FC 1-2
C: Komatsu 86’
Y: Ikemoto 32’,71’

Over 15 000 had showed up to see Cerezo’s match vs Yokohama, but most of them ended up disappointed as Cerezo once again slipped to a defeat at home. This was their 5th loss in 6 home games, which is nothing else than a catastrophy for a title-contender. Remarkably enough though, they are only 3 points behind 3rd placed Sagan, so they must still be considered one of the favorites for promotion. That is however, if they can get their season back on track.
They didn’t look too bad this match, but sloppy defending saw Yokohama get away with 2 goals. First, Ikemoto met a cross from Ota to make it 1-0 after 32 minutes in what was a good Cerezo-period. Cerezo focused their attacks down the flanks, but it was clear they missed Kagawa’s creativity. The wingers did create chances though, but neither Komatsu or Furuhashi managed to convert them. Actually, Furuhashi got injured in the 1st half, which saw Kakitani enter the field instead. The new signing Kaio made his debut as he came on early in the 2nd half, but unfortunately for Cerezo he couldn’t help them in avoiding a defeat. Ikemoto were on target again in the 71st minute to score Yokohama’s 2nd goal, and with little time left Cerezo’s chances of points looked slim. Heavy pressure on Yokohama saw them get to some chances though, but the only goal they got came in the 86th minute through Komatsu, who scored his 12th goal this season. Perhaps Cerezo should have deserved more, but in the end it was Yokohama who could celebrated a very long-awaited win. Cerezo had 14 shots to Yokohama’s 12.

Roasso Kumamoto Tokushima Vortis 3-0
R: Miyazaki 62’, Takahashi 81’,87’

The quality in finishing were what divided Roasso and Tokushima this match, and somewhat surprisingly it were Roasso that scored the goals. With Roasso having so many defenders out, one would think Tokushima would atleast find the net on 1 occasion, but instead they ended up without a goal once again. The first half didn’t provide much action with neither of the teams getting to too many chances. Tokushima started the 2nd half best, but poor finishing, from the new striker Sosa in particular, meant Roasso instead took the lead in the 62nd minute, through a header from corner by Miyazaki. Roasso’s topscorer Takahashi added 2 more in the dying minutes, to take his tally to 12 this season. A poor result for Tokushima, who now are 5 points behind Roasso in the table. Roasso had 9 shots to Tokushima’s 8.

Sanfrecces road back to J1 seems like a walk in the park, and once again they took all 3 points as they beat Sagan 1-0 at home. With that, they’ve won a remarkable 20 out of 27 matches, and nobody seems able to stop them. Sagan fought hard though, but in the end Sanfrecce were deserved winners. The first half saw Sanfrecce trying to break down the Sagan defence, but as usual Sagan’s back-four proved hard to beat. Despite several shots on goal, Sanfrecce didn’t have too many big chances, and the teams were deadlockedy by half-time. Just after the break though, Koji Morisaki broke free on a counter-attack to make it 1-0 to the home-side. Sagan refused to give up though, and started creating chances on their own. The 2nd half were quite entertaining, with both teams attacking. But we didn’t see any more goals, and in the end it was a deserved home-win. Sanfrecce had 20 shots to Sagan’s 11.

Thespa Kusatsu Ehime FC 2-1
T: Takada 9’, Shimada 89’
E: Tanaka 44’

The match between Thespa and Ehime turned out to be more entertaining than first thought, with Thespa needing a last-minute goal to take the win. Thespa and Ehime are regarded as two of the more ”boring” sides in the league, but this match had plenty of action at both ends. Thespa’s super-striker Takada gave the home-team an early lead after his team-mates set him up with some nifty one-touch passing. The clinical striker made no mistake alone with Tada in Ehime’s goal. However, the match took a turn when Thespa’s Tanaka were sent-off in the 32nd minute, and Ehime took more over. They got their equalizer just before the break, through their own Toshiya Tanaka. Ehime dominated most of the 2nd half as well, but Honda in the Thespa goal played a marvellous game and denied Ehime a goal every time. As often happens when a team fails to take advantage of their pressure, the other team scores on their only chance, and that was exactly what happened. Shimada scored with a cracking free-kick to give Thespa the win in the 89th minute. By no means deserved, but still an impressive comeback from the home team. Thespa had 11 shots to Ehime’s 19.

FC Gifu Mito Hollyhock 0-1
M: Arata 63’

Mito took a very impressive and also highly important 1-0 away win against Gifu this round, and they controlled the match from start to finish. The win takes them just 1 point short of Gifu ,and could pass them on the table with a win next round. Gifu once again looked poor at home, and never really looked like winning this one. Mito took control from the start off, and had several big chances. With a bit more luck and efficiency they coudl easily have been 1-2 goals up. Instead, we had to wait until the 63rd minute for the winning goal, when Mito’s topscorer Arata once again were on target with a powerful header following a Kanazawa cross. A nice goal, and although the game evened out a little after that Mito’s win never looked to be under threat. Mito for once looked strong in defence, and the fast attacks from Gifu were stopped over and over again. Gifu had 9 shots to Mito’s 11.
